Phill Stephens.
My name is Phill Stephens and welcome to where I live... "North Queensland's most gay friendly island paradise"!
With so much to see & do here, you will want to keep coming back for more.

This site is for those who are gay / gay friendly & want to visit / travel or move to Magnetic Island.  It is also an online resource for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community of Magnetic Island and its surrounds. Here is more information in one place than most other sites have to offer.

Some of you may think that North Queensland is full of homophobic red necks. This might be the case but Magnetic Island ("Maggie") is somewhat unique in that its island community is so cosmopolitan.

Most people in business & living here are originally from somewhere else. With about 2,500 permanent residents a wonderful sense of community has developed & as such it is recognized as one which is diverse in ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, age and physical & mental ability.

I think this is also because we have quite a large gay community on the island. There are many openly gay singles & couples of both men & women living, working & playing here.

Locals

Townsville also has its own gay pub called the "Sovereign Hotel" & gay bar, the "Bent Bar" at the Mansfield Hotel, as well as a gay business peoples group called "Dick & Dora's"  & the infamous "Mary Who" book shop

I have found, after living here for nine years, that Maggie strives to be a safe place by having & maintaining an anti racist, anti sexist, socially sensitive village like atmosphere.

Over half of Maggie Island (approx. 5184 hectares) is National Park and it rises to 497 m at Mount Cook. It is 11 km at its widest point and there is approximately 40 km of coastline. Twenty-four kilometres of tracks guide visitors through thickly wooded bushland, ranging from dry wattles and stunted eucalypts to moist forested valleys.

It is no wonder that Magnetic Island offers such a unique blend of fantastic National Park, a variety of holiday accommodation & secluded beaches, considering it is all within a World Heritage National Park!
